Background and story
Old accounts—half catalog, half warning—describe a cabinet that once stood at the edge of traveling fairs and dim-lit arcades. There, curiosity often outweighed caution, and visitors offered coins without hesitation.
People knew it simply as the Shrunken Heads Cabinet.
No one knew exactly where it first appeared. Some claimed it came from distant river settlements, while others believed it was assembled from fragments of rituals never meant to leave their place of origin. However, one detail remained consistent in every account: its purpose was not to display, but to exchange.
When someone placed a coin into the slot, it set something in motion—not within the mechanism, but within the unseen.
The cabinet hummed softly.
The candles flickered without wind.
And from the small, darkened window, a face seemed to emerge—not chosen, but given.
